Allow me to (re)introduce myself
Hi everyone! If you don’t already know me, here is a quick introduction. I’m Russ Poldrack, a professor of Psychology at Stanford University. My research uses brain imaging to understand how people make decisions and control their behavior (such as stopping themselves from doing something they are about to do). Over the last decade I have focused heavily on improving the way that science is done, and our group develops methods and software tools to help make science more robust and trustworthy. I’ve published several books, including The New Mind Readers, Hard To Break, Statistical Thinking, and the Handbook of Functional MRI Data Analysis (with Jeanette Mumford and Tom Nichols). I’m also a long-time advocate for open source software, and I’m the faculty director of OpenSource@Stanford, a hub for open source developers across the entire campus.
I’ve been blogging on and off for more than 10 years, about various topics at the intersection of neuroscience and technology. In Neural Strategies, I am looking to engage a community interested in the intersection of science (focused on but not limited to neuroscience and psychology), coding, and AI. I can’t promise to blog regularly - my full-time job as Professor and Department Chair sometimes gets in the way. But I will do my best to post new content as regularly as possible, at least once every week or two.
In the coming weeks I’ll be posting content from an ongoing open book project on coding for reproducible science using AI. Subscribe using the button below to be notified whenever I post new content!
